In 2020 Gail began to collaborate with Cuban painter, Javier Martinez ( Loch), in Havana. They were drawn towards painting on the same canvas at the same time, through a recognition of their mutual regard for each other’s approach and concerns within the medium. They were amazed that they had each discovered possibly the one person with whom they had as much trust in each other’s response to the medium, as in their own.

This method, they both found, expanded their frames of reference and processes. Gail and Javier delightedly had two further month long opportunities for this interchange, in February of 2023 and then March of 2024. On the last two occasions, they produced a wide body of works, which were exhibited at La Casa des Artistas y Creadores in Havana, where Javier is artist in residence.

Angolan-Portuguese dancer, Mary Feliciano from London teamed up with Cuban dancer, Dairon Jove to create dance pieces in response to the paintings. On all three years, ceramicist, Helena Kosakova from the Czech republic produced works in clay, inspired by her surroundings in Havana.
