‘A Line of the Times', Notting Hill Arts, 2020

Between two Covid lockdowns, Notting Hill Arts Gallery allowed Gail to lay down on their floor, her 50 metre roll of fabric. Then, with a narrow roller, she imprinted a blue/black line along its length. Invited participants and many passers-by were given black henna in cones to make their drawings, which automatically related to the initial line. The latter integrated the diverse mark making of all the different people. Due to the addition of water, the henna colouring soaked through to the reverse side, which allowed for the potential of parading the piece through the streets.
